I often reflect on seasons in my life where I surprised myself, pushing through challenges to accomplish something major. (Am I the only one who uses past me as motivation?)

One of my most defining experiences was pregnancy and birth - a journey that not only taught me enduring lessons but, if we're being completely honest, may have helped me beat the terrifying odds of maternal mortality in the United States.

As a Black woman facing a system where we're three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes, and 80% of deaths are preventable, this wasn't just personal growth - it was legit survival. Now more than ever, we must look out for each other where we can to share knowledge and resources.
