It was August 2016 when I traveled to Barbados with a friend to experience Crop Over. In hindsight, I should have started training a year in advance—because nothing else could have truly prepared me for eight hours of non-stop dancing behind and alongside trucks. Still, the energy was everything, and towards the end of the day, as we neared the beach, I was hype—not just for the view, but for the long-awaited food.

I stood in line for the bathroom, right before we veered off, and Aunty Flo decided to make her grand entrance at the most inconvenient time. (Or maybe the most convenient time, considering she had the courtesy to hold off while we were wuking up on strangers.)

Not only did I get my period on vacation, but I also had no tampon, pad, or even a liner in sight. Trying to play it cool while lowkey panicking, I asked the woman in front of me if she had a tampon to spare. This lady saved my life!

Aunt Flo caught me slipping again in Mexico back in 2022. But this year, she did me a solid with a little pre-vacay visit—and I couldn’t be happier. Show me a woman who enjoys being on her period while on vacation—I’ll wait.

One golden rule I took away from this experience: always carry at least one extra tampon. You never know who might need it—and I’m always ready to pay it forward.

Have you ever found yourself in a similar situation? What’s your go-to period travel hack? Or, what’s one small thing you do before heading out to help someone else if they ever need it?

Turning the Page

I’ve replayed this moment in my head over and over for the past few months—returning to writing in this format. I’ve missed it. This time, I want to take a slightly different approach. While I’ll still focus on the journey of accomplishing goals, I’ll also share insights, lessons, and discoveries that I hope you’ll find just as interesting as I do.

Here are some of the topics you can expect moving forward. (This is not all-inclusive.) Not every post will cover every topic, but each will bring something valuable (and funny) to your inbox. That is the hope and goal.

  • ✍🏽 The Writer’s Block (quotes, inspiration from writing prompts, etc.)

  • 👧🏽 Mom Mode (personal insights, funny times, wins, challenges, etc.)

  • 🎨 Creative Tingz (etsy updates, creative ideas, etc.)

  • 🏛️ Politickle (somehow finding the funny in politics via memes and videos)

Next time, I’ll dive into the employee experience and what I think we really want from employers. Until then, I appreciate your time. Talk soon, and take care!
